Set to Expire 12/31/2011

Americans age 70 ½ and older can make a charitable donation up to $100,000 directly from their IRAs (without taking constructive receipt of the assets and thus avoiding current taxation) through 12/31/11.  The donation can take the place of a taxpayer’s required minimum distribution, but contributors are also prevented from taking a tax deduction for the donation.  Please consult a qualified tax adviser for details and recommendations (source: Internal Revenue Service).
